Is it a positive or a negative? Mold

Is it a positive or is it a negative form? I know my sculptor friends know the correct answer.

This is a mold off of one of my Purple Heart relief sculptures that I make in bronze for collectors. To make the negative mold I first had to sculpt the original. For the original I used Freeman (formerly JMac Classic) extra soft 2AB-250. The mold that you see in the photos was made by mixing a part A and part B of a urethane rubber called 74-30 and applied to the clay form. This original sculpt covered by a 1/4" thick layer of rubber was then backed up by making a mother mold using pottery plaster and hemp to give it strength. When demolded, the clay original is reused for another project and the rubber and plaster become the original for casting duplicates in bronze. The mold I made is used primarily for pouring wax into for casting in bronze. If I wanted to cast in another material (like resin for example) I'd use silicone rubber, not urethane (although if you used urethane rubber and want to cast a urethane positive, we do sell a special sealer for this purpose). Even though this is a negative form in the mold, it appears as though it is positive. Perhaps this is why so many people are confused when they say 'mold' when talking to sculptors about a cast. In sculpture land, a mold is the negative of a material used to cast into; eg rubber mold for casting wax into or ceramic shell (mold) for casting bronze into. A positive is termed 'casting' or 'form' or 'product'.
